Are online IQ tests accurate?

Updated 31 October 2026

Some are fairly accurate, many are not. A good online test can give you a useful estimate, but it can’t replace a clinical test taken with a psychologist.

Online vs clinical tests

A clinical IQ test is given one-to-one by a psychologist, in a quiet room, with fixed rules. Its scores are compared with a large group of people chosen to represent the population. Online tests are taken at home, in conditions nobody controls, and few have norms built that carefully.

Where UNIQUE stands

UNIQUE uses 64 matrices with time limits and shows your score as a range. Its scoring has been tested on more than a million simulated test runs. The difficulty of each matrix isn’t yet calibrated on real test-takers, so your result is an honest estimate, not a clinical score.
