What IQ do you need for Mensa?
Updated 31 October 2026
Mensa accepts people who score in the top 2% on an approved test taken under supervision. On most modern IQ tests, that’s 130 or more.
The number depends on the test
The top 2% is always the same group of people, but tests write it with different numbers, because they spread their scores differently.
| Scale | Top 2% starts at |
|---|---|
| Most modern tests (e.g. Wechsler) | 130 |
| Older Stanford-Binet editions | 132 |
| Cattell scale | 148 |
How to qualify
- Mensa’s own test. In many countries Mensa runs supervised admission tests.
- A previous result. Many national Mensa groups also accept a score from an approved test taken with a psychologist.
Rules, minimum ages and fees vary from country to country, so check your national Mensa’s website.
Quick answers
- Can I join with an online test? No. Online tests, including UNIQUE, don’t count.
- Is 125 enough? On most modern tests, no: 125 is about the top 5%.
- How rare is 130? About 1 in 44 people. See the IQ percentile calculator.
UNIQUE is not affiliated with Mensa. Our test can give you a rough idea of where you stand before you take an official one.
